Quotes to Consider:

C. H. Spurgeon: "A fair face may be a foul bargain. Young men should not be carried away with mere beauty, but look to character and disposition. One who marries a woman for her beauty alone is as foolish as the man who ate a bird because it sang so sweetly."

Thomas Brooks: "If thou art a man of holiness, thou must look more for a portion of grace in thy wife, than a portion of gold with a wife; thou must look more after righteousness than riches; more after piety than money; more after the inheritance she hath in heaven, than the inheritance she hath on earth; more at her being new born, than at her being high born."

Rev. Steven Key on Proverbs 31:10-31: "A young woman ought to ask herself in the light of this passage: Am I looking to cultivate the fear of the Lord as my most important quality, without exception? Are my most important exercises those spiritual exercises unto godliness—those exercises of devotion, of prayer, of training myself in the ways of a virtuous woman? Or are my most important exercises the physical exercises that seek to improve my attractiveness to young men, and is my bible the wretched and ungodly magazines published for the teenagers and women of this wicked world?" (Far Above Rubies, p. 8).

Robert Candlish on I John 1:8: "... if, after all, even in our confession, there is reserve and guile, trying to make out that in this or that instance ‘we have not sinned,’ or not sinned so much as might appear, we are guilty still of an unbelieving distrust of God; ‘we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.’"
